HISTORY OF OUR VISION STATEMENT

Beginning in early 2020, the Menifee Union School District (MUSD) gathered staff, students, parents, and community members to engage in a planning process for a Vision/Mission Refresh.

The stakeholder group of approximately 50 participants met four times during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years to create the District's vision statement, update the mission statement, and begin the development of a student learner profile. The first two meetings were held in January and February 2020, at which point the process was paused due to school closures. During the second meeting, two former MUSD students shared their experiences as former elementary and middle school students in our district.

The students shared heartfelt memories of their time in MUSD. One student relayed how supported she felt in the transition from middle school math to high school math because her teacher provided insight and coaching on effective strategies. The other student remarked on the support he felt from all of his teachers, noting that they always encouraged him and made him feel capable of accomplishing his goals. Having now graduated from high school, he works full-time while attending college in the evenings. He expressed pride in his journey and noted that he felt his former MUSD teachers would be proud of his accomplishments as well.

The stakeholder group reconvened for two virtual meetings in February and March 2021. During these sessions, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root stated, "The vision and mission of a school district provides the 'why and what' that will allow Menifee Union School District to provide our students with the skills they need to be successful for their limitless future."

In the foundational stages of this process, Dr. Root and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Kimberly Huesing, met with additional current and former students to gather their perspectives on the skills necessary for success in high school, college, career, and life. Following these collaborative sessions, the new vision, mission, and Student Success Attributes were presented to the Board of Trustees in June 2021 and received their formal approval.
