NUTRITIONAL STANDARDS

Food Service strives to provide students with healthy food choices so they can succeed in school. All meals provided through the National School Meal program must meet nutritional standards for each age group. A la carte items sold must meet strict guidelines for calories, fat, saturated fat, and sugar content. All foods served during the school day must meet these Nutritional Standards. APPROVED FOODS
The Federal Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 requires all school districts to have a Wellness Policy in place as of June 2006. Menifee Union School District addresses Nutritional Guidelines in (Link to BP 5030, AR 5030).
In California any food or beverage sold to students outside of the federally reimbursable meal program are subject to specific state and federal rules that govern competitive foods and beverages. Determining which foods are approved to serve in schools can be complicated. If your student has a food allergy or medical situation, please refer to our nutritional information to help your child select appropriate foods. (Link to Nutritionals)
HOW WE ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS
Our school Nutrition Program complies with federal, state and
local requirements.
Our School Nutrition Program is accessible to all children.
Recommend that all foods and beverages made available on
campus (including vending, concessions, a la carte, student
stores, parties, and fundraising) during the school day are
consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Insure that all foods made available on campus adhere to food
safety and security guidelines.
Insure that food and/or physical activity is not used as a reward
or punishment.
