Dr. Linda Callaway

Greetings from the Menifee Union School District!

As we begin the 2010/2011 school year, I would like to share with you the great things that are happening for our children in the Menifee Union School District. Though the State Budget has continued to present challenges for public education, our laser sharp focus has remained on our students and the protection of key programs that are the hallmark of the Menifee Union School District.

Academically, our students have fared well with Academic Performance Index (API) scores ranking among some of the highest in Riverside County. This past year, three of our eight elementary schools were recognized as California Distinguished Schools; hats off to Freedom Crest, Oak Meadows, and Ridgemoor Elementary Schools on their selection for this prestigious honor. Additionally, two of our schools, Evans Ranch and Ridgemoor Elementary Schools, were selected for the 2009 California Business for Education Excellence Honor Roll.  We are proud of their recognition by our business community.

Our award-winning District Music Program continues to underscore our commitment to the arts. Instrumental music and choir classes are available at the middle school level coupled with entry level and above instrumental music opportunities for our fourth and fifth grade students at the elementary level. Concerts and performances abound at all levels throughout each school year.
In addition to the importance placed on academic fitness in the Menifee Union School District, our teachers stress the benefits of physical fitness for each and every student. Our students performed well on State physical fitness tests during the 2009/2010 school year, supported by comprehensive physical education curriculum offered at each grade level.

The third component of our commitment to educating the “whole child” in Menifee is emotional health and well-being.  Character education, based on the Six Pillars of Character, John Wooden’s Inch and Miles Pyramid of Success, and the Forty Developmental Assets Program, gives rise to a myriad of activities throughout the school year in which our students demonstrate positive character traits.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with our families and our business community in support of the students of the Menifee Union School District.

Respectfully,

Linda Callaway, Ed. D.
