Library Services
School libraries are an integral part of each of the school sites in the Menifee Union School District. Currently, all Menifee Union School District Media Centers employ one Library Technician. Library Media Centers are available to students and staff during school hours. On a formal basis, elementary teachers schedule weekly visitations for stories, selection of materials, recreational reading, and research. Informally, teachers may schedule additional library visitations to coordinate with current units of study. Middle School students may visit the Library Media Center for research and recreational reading as needed.
A District Library Plan was approved by the Board of Education January, 1999 and a kindergarten through fourth grade Classroom Library Plan was approved in January, 2000. Each of the plans will increase the number of library books and add technology to provide a variety of resources for our students.
The District mission statement is as follows:
"The mission of the school library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information in order to develop new ideas, enhance existing knowledge, and support classroom curriculum."
The three primary goals for our school libraries are as follows:
- To provide up-to-date relevant resources in a variety of formats and technologies to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- To provide appropriate facilities to meet the learning and teaching needs of an effective library media program.
- To involve parents and community in the development and support of library media programs for improved student learning.
