The Board came to this conclusion after considering the information presented by the four Task Forces comprised of classified and certificated employees, parents, and site/district administrators who participated in a collaborative process to develop guidelines for each of the proposed instructional models. In addition, the Board heard comments from over 50 parents and stakeholders prior to making their final decision.
Details on how the Distance Learning and the Hybrid models will work will be provided in the days to come.
Mr. Greg Magnuson, Consultant to Business Services, presented themes from the 2020-21 Enacted State Budget. In summary, while there are provisions that limit the damage to public education funding this year, the long term forecast suggests a bumpy road is ahead. There are no models to predict how state and national economies will recover. “The good news is cuts are basically postponed, probably until next year. The bad news is the cuts will probably be much larger next year.” The Board also acknowledged and expressed appreciation for Mr. Magnuson’s contributions as he has provided outstanding leadership during his months with the District. He now moves on to serve as an interim superintendent in the Huntington Beach City School District.
The Board welcomed Mr. Walter J. Con to lead the Business Services Department until the search process to permanently fill the position is completed. Mr. Con has an extensive background in school district finances, including experience as an Assistant Superintendent of Business Services in multiple school districts prior to his retirement.
