Dear Callie Parents and Guardians, 

I begin this message with excitement and humility. I am Juliet Makapugay, the Principal at Callie since 2020! Also known as Mrs. Mak, I am so excited to be able to lead Callie during this time of dynamic change! Allow me to introduce myself. I served as the assistant principal at Callie prior to my appointment as principal, and have had the pleasure of serving in the Menifee Union School District since 2016. I am a member of the community and have spent my career wearing many hats. I have 13 years of teaching as a specialized academic instructor, one year as a program specialist, and seven years as an administrator. I place an emphasis on students’ connection with school and have served as an ASB and WEB advisor (as well as student council advisor at the elementary school level). Providing students with opportunities to learn and apply leadership skills in their daily life is a passion of mine. 

My priority for this school year is to ensure that our students continue to learn and achieve at their highest levels, while maintaining a school culture that exemplifies the core values of the Callie way: Safe, Organized, Attentive, and Respectful and Responsible! Maintaining our school spirit and culture is paramount to providing a well-rounded education for our Callie Pioneers! Attendance is a district-wide focus this year and I am committed to working with families to break down barriers to ensure our students are at school each and every day they are well! 

Here at Callie Kirkpatrick Elementary School, we have an amazing team of outstanding educators and cast members! Our teachers are not only highly qualified, but care about each and every one of our students. They collaborate by grade level in Professional Learning Communities to ensure that every child learns and grows-both academically and social-emotionally! Our support staff are equally committed to standing with us in ensuring your child’s success at Callie!  Mr. Doty, our school counselor, rounds out our team of dedicated professionals with your child’s best interests in mind!

Callie Kirkpatrick Elementary School has a focus on Early Literacy. It is my goal that all of our students are reading. We have several programs that we are supporting to encourage reading at all ages. We have i-Ready Reading personalized instruction to meet students at their level and prevent, intervene, and extend! For students with difficulty with decoding, we also provide Sounds Sensible and SPIRE training to intervene with students placing into the program.  

Parent engagement is the key to providing a well rounded education to our students! Stay involved with our community by volunteering to work in our classrooms or with our amazing PTA! We are launching Watch D.O.G.S. at our school site to get our dads, grandfathers, uncles, male role models on campus! We are #Calliestrong!
