Menifee Union School District

Private School Search and Serve

The Menifee Union School District (MUSD) is legally obligated to seek out and identify students that may have a disability requiring the support of special education.  That said, if your child is between the ages 3-22 and you suspect he/she may have a disability which negatively impacts his/her educational performance then you have the right to request a special education eligibility evaluation through MUSD at no cost.  Such an evaluation is available to all children even if a child is attending a private school or is receiving home schooling.  A child may be found to be eligible for special education services if they are identified as having one of the following educationally defined handicapping conditions:

  • Intellectual disability (formerly mental retardation)
  • Emotional disturbance
  • Multiple disabilities
  • Hard of hearing
  • Orthopedic impairments
  • Autism
  • Deafness
  • Other heath impairment
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Speech and language impairment
  • Specific learning disability
  • Established medical disability
  • Vision impairment
  • Deaf/blindness

According to federal and state education code, all students are entitled to a “free and appropriate public education (FAPE)” within the “least restrictive environment (LRE).”  Once a student is identified as having a disability, the student may be able to access an array of services through MUSD including, but not limited to, specialized academic instruction, speech and language therapy, adaptive physical education, assistive technology, and/or occupational therapy.  MUSD is proud to offer a full continuum of special education services and programs.  Particular special education services that are offered to a student are based on a student’s individual need for service. Students may be eligible for services through an individualized service plan (ISP) even if they are enrolled in a private school or participating in home schooling.  If you have any questions or would like to make further inquiries regarding your child and special education, please contact the MUSD special education department at 951.672.1851.
