The Accelerated Reader Program consists of leveled books (pre-K to 9) and computer quizzes that go along with the books. The student reads the book at his/her level and then takes a quiz on the computer. Each class has access to these quizzes in their classrooms as well as access in the library.
Each book is worth a certain number of points that the student can use to receive prizes. When the student completes the quiz, the amount of questions they get correct determines how many of the available points they have earned. For example, if a level 4 book is worth 5 points and the student scored 100% on their quiz they would receive all 5 points. However, if the student scored 80% they would only get 4 points.
This program promotes comprehension and the love of reading and we have found it very effective.
