Unlike the optional 403(b)/457(b) retirement plans, CalSTRS (California State Teachers Retirement System) is a mandatory retirement/pension program that provides benefits to teachers and their families. With five years of service credit, a certificated staff member can be eligible to receive retirement benefits.
