Dear Oak Meadow Parents:
Welcome everyone to Oak Meadows! For those of you who are unfamiliar with our library, we would like to explain a few of our policies and procedures. It is the responsibility of each child to take very good care of each book they check out from the library. In the beginning of the school year book care is stressed to each class, kindergarten through fifth grade, and a parent/guardian must sign the permission letter stating that he/she understands the rules of the library and will do his/her best to follow these rules. The library rules are as follows:
1. Books may be checked out for one week. If no one is waiting for it, the book may be renewed for as long as the child needs to finish it.
2. It is the child’s responsibility to see that the library books are not lost or damaged. If another student damages them, it is still your child’s responsibility to see that the books are paid for. The fine must be paid for before your child can check out a new book. These rules are for the purpose of keeping the library as well maintained and loss free as possible. This gives your child an opportunity to have access to any book in the collection.
We are looking forward to a wonderful new year with your children. We invite you to come in at anytime to visit the library and ask questions about our program.
The Accelerated Reader Program consists of leveled books (pre-K to 9) and computer quizzes that go along with the books. The student reads the book at his/her level and then takes a quiz on the computer. Each class has access to these quizzes in their classrooms as well as access in the computer lab.
Each book is worth a certain number of points that the student can use to receive prizes. When the student completes the quiz, the amount of questions they get correct determines how many of the available points they have earned. For example, if a level 4 book is worth 5 points and the student scored 100% on their quiz they would receive all 5 points. However, if the student scored 80% they would only get 4 points.
There are prizes available in the program that the students can earn. To view the list of books on our Accelerated Reading program please click on the link above. To view how many points a student has to earn to recieve prizes please click on the AR points link, it will also show you what the prizes are for each grade level.
HAPPY READING!!!
