Academic Program
The second grade team of teachers have the set the following goals and guidelines for our instructional program:
We teach to the California State Standards focusing on critical thinking and mastery skills. We design lessons and activities that identify the purposes and real life application of the skills the students are learning. We pledge to teach, model, and expect excellent behavior and social skills for the entire school community as well as the individual student.
In order to assess whether students are meeting academic and social expectations, we pledge to consistently monitor student progress through a variety of measures: observations, student work, test results, and behavior reports.
Behavior
School behavior expected from all OMES second grade students is a combination of common courtesy and safety considerations. It is based on the belief that Students Have The Right To Learn And Teachers Have the Right And The Duty To Teach. Classroom rules are developed using the following guidelines:
1. Do your best at all times.
2. Respect all individuals.
3. Follow directions.
4. Take care of materials and supplies.
5. Be kind to one another.
