A: The new boundaries will go into effect on July 1, 2023. Families affected by these changes will be notified via email and a letter mailed to their homes over the coming weeks. To determine which middle school is your child’s school of residence, you can view the boundary map.
A: Boundaries are initially determined by the location of the middle school. A committee was selected consisting of district parents, teachers, classified staff, administrators, a member of the superintendent's cabinet, a community organization member, and a city representative. The district’s facilities department presented various options to the committee. Based on those options, the committee made a recommendation to the governing board. The governing board approved the recommended boundaries on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
A: Students attending Quail Valley Elementary School, Ridgemoor Elementary School, and Táawila Elementary School may now be within the boundaries of KNMS. To determine which middle school is your child’s school of residence, you can view the boundary map.
A: District staff will work with staff, students, and families to plan for a successful transition year. Principals and staff from each school will reach out to welcome and support students and make sure families are informed. Since groups of students (from the same elementary service areas) will all be changing at once, we anticipate many peer relationships will stay intact.
A: Parents/guardians whose school of residence is KNMS and wish for their child to remain at their current middle school must submit an intra-district transfer by February 14, 2023. Intra-district transfers can be filled out via the district website at this link.
A: All Kathryn Newport Middle School families will receive up-to-date information as soon as it is available. Information will be sent out via email and ParentSquare.
