To All of our Mariner Families,

The Shore is by far the best school around and I couldn't be more proud to be at the helm of this ship!  From the moment I docked at Southshore, I have been amazed by the positivity, compassion, and support by our students and families.  Our community is strong, supportive, and student centered.  Southshore is an AWESOME place for students to grow and engage in their learning in order to reach their maximum potential!

I want to take a special moment to welcome our new families that have been visiting the school site to enroll their students.  We welcome you to the community and are thrilled to have you join our Mariner family.  I look forward to meeting all of you and encourage you to become involved in our school community.  A great way to become involved is to join our amazing P.T.A. that plays a very active role in supporting our students, staff, parents, and our school.  We invite you to participate in the many wonderful events that our P.T.A. hosts.

As an educator, I have always been passionate about teaching students to read.  I will never forget the day my own children became readers and their world opened up to the thrill of being able to read print.  Life began for them that day!  Watching our Mariners become expert readers and devouring books bring me so much joy.

I am so proud of our amazing Southshore staff.  Our teaching staff is comprised of highly qualified educators who collaborate as a Professional Learning Community to ensure the academic and social growth of every child as we prepare our students to be college and career ready.  Our support staff is equally dedicated to your child’s success and we are so excited to have so many caring adults on our campus.  We are so fortunate to have our very own Assistant Principal, Kellie Cross, that is here on campus every day to support our students and our families.  Mrs. Cross's infectious smile and laughter, her devotion to student learning, and her kindhearted demeanor makes our students feel welcomed and special each and every day!

We encourage you to volunteer in our classrooms, as well as participate in the many different types of events, committees, and programs that we have throughout the year. We hold monthly Principal’s Breakfast called Shark Talk and Tea for our parents to come and ask questions, provide feedback, and learn about the wonderful curriculum and instruction that is taking place at our school.  We also hold monthly Student of the Month Friday Flag Assemblies where we celebrate our student successes and recognize individual students for their hard work and determination.  This is a great opportunity for our parents to come and see the many wonderful things our students and staff are doing throughout the year. We believe that a strong home/school connection is vital to student success.

Finally, I want to personally thank you for entrusting our team with the safety and education of your child.   It is our greatest honor and we are here to serve you.

With gratitude,
Bridget Heeren
