On February 6, 2024, the MUSD Governing Board approved plans for remodeling Hans Christensen Middle School to expand the grades served to grades TK-8. Below you can find more information about this exciting endeavor.
- What are the plans for the HCMS campus? The Menifee Union School is planning to remodel and transform the school to serve students from Transitional Kindergarten to eighth grade.
- What is the remodeling process and timeline? The district is in the planning process now and will be ready to operate the TK-8 school in August 2025.
- Why is Hans Christensen Middle School undergoing remodeling? Our city continues to grow at a fast pace. As such, families are in need of more TK-5 classrooms in the northeast portion of the district, and HCMS has available space to meet those needs.
- Will the school remain open during the remodeling? Yes, the school will continue to operate as a middle school during the remodeling process. Rest assured that we will maintain a safe environment and our desire is for instruction to continue with no interruptions.
- What improvements can we expect from the remodeling? This remodeling project will include new TK-K classrooms and playground, a new playground for grades 1-5, and a new play area near the existing lunch area. Minor modifications to a wing of current classrooms will be made to better accommodate elementary-age students.
- How will the remodeling affect current students and staff? At this time, the foreseeable impact is that areas of the campus will be off-limits during construction.
- Will there be any changes to the school's curriculum or programs? Yes, the school will go through a feedback process to determine a theme and instructional focus for the school. The Leadership Team at HCMS is currently working on exploring new curricula and new offerings in planning for a transition to a TK-8 Program. The goal is to meet and explore options over the next few months in hopes of solidifying the new curriculum and focus by the end of the 23-24 school year.
- Will the school maintain its current name and identity? Yes, these elements will be reimagined with the input of the staff, families, and the community. We will provide information about opportunities for input via email, this website, and social media. Community members who would like to stay informed can sign up for our mailing list at this site.
- How will traffic and parking be affected during the remodeling? The site does not currently use all of the parking spaces available, and therefore, some parking areas may be closed throughout the remodel. There may be some traffic issues on particular days as large equipment is brought in. These days will be communicated to staff and families, and will be scheduled to reduce impact.
- How can I stay informed about the progress of the remodeling? Staff will be informed via email at their district email account. Families will be informed via ParentSquare. Community members who would like to stay informed can sign up for our mailing list at this site.
