Both State and Federal laws require schools to assess the English proficiency of all students whose primary language is not English using the English Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).
ELPAC tests different material at each of four grade spans (K, 1,2, through grade two, grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-10, 11-12). All four versions are aligned with the grade-level English language development (ELD) standards. The ELPAC test assesses four skill areas and vary according to the student's grade: Listening, speaking, reading and writing. Student performance is rated using four performance levels.
ELPAC practice tests can be found here.
