Engaging Young Minds for Limitless Futures.
Menifee Union School District

Welcome to the Health Office

A health technician, licensed vocational nurse (LVN), and/or a credentialed school nurse is present on campus five days per week. We are here to meet the health needs of our students. Together, we provide a link between home and school regarding health concerns and serve as a health resource to you and your child. School nurses, LVNs and health technicians strengthen and facilitate the educational processes by improving and promoting the optimal health of our students.

The health office is a place for:

  • first aid for immediate and serious injuries that occur at school (ex: head injuries, falls, cuts or lacerations that are large, severe bleeding, student passes out)

  • first aid for obvious illnesses/health problems occurring at school (ex: vomiting, persistent cough/sneezing, insect bites, and nosebleeds)

  • receiving medications that have been authorized by a parent and physician

  • assistance for students with known health conditions that require immediate attention (ex: diabetes, seizures, asthma, allergic reactions, ADD/ADHD)

Medication Administration

  • No student shall be given medication during school hours except upon written request from a licensed physician/healthcare provider who has the responsibility for the medical management of your child.

  • A new form is required for each prescription change and/or at the beginning of each school year.  This includes prescription as well as over-the-counter medications.

  • Over-the-counter medications must come to school in a sealed container.

  • All medication must come to school in the original, labeled container, which should include the student’s name, the physician’s name, the name of the medication, and the doctor’s instructions.

  • A parent or other adult must bring the medication to school. The district does not allow students to bring medication to school.

  • Students may not carry medication with them during the school day*

*Exception: A physician may prescribe asthma inhalers and epinephrine pens for self-administration by a student.  The parent and physician must agree in writing that the student is capable of carrying the medication and administering it on their own.

Ill or Injured Students:

Menifee Union School District recognizes that students may become ill or injured at school. Health office visits are documented by health office staff in Aeries. When a student becomes ill or injured at school and is unable to remain in school, the health technician, LVN, or credentialed school nurse will call the parent. If the parent is unavailable, they will notify one of the emergency contacts listed on the student’s emergency contact list. If a parent or emergency contact is unable to transport the student, a school administrator will be consulted.
